N-340: Politicians and residents angry over lack o

THE lack of response from the central government to requests from the town council of Los Gallardos is proving to be frustrating to both residents and politicians.

The mayoress of Los Gallardos has asked for improvements to be made to the N-340 motorway and the exit roundabout of the Autovia del Mediterraneo.

However, her demands have not been accepted by central government, and some local politicians complain that, whereas in other towns, such as Vera and Antas, the Ministry of Public Works has provided funds for work on the N-340, they have not made any investment in Los Gallardos.

The mayoress is not happy with the situation, although she recognises the fact that central government does provide help with funding for other projects that are also necessary for the town. She is appreciative of the support of the Junta de Andalucia, which has offered financing for the construction of a healthcare centre and a new school.

The urban motorway link on the N.340 is dangerous because its feeder lanes are inadequate. It has a slow lane and many heavy goods vehicles use the road. Residents in Bedar and Lubrin have to cross the road every day and they say it is like taking your life in your hands.

Although the asphalt along the curve of the link road has been reinforced recently, campaigners say this is not enough bearing in mind the amount of traffic using the road.
