Berja fiestas a great success

• 25 Sep 2008 •

Falconry exhibition: Popular with all.The fiestas held in honour of the town’s patron saint, the Virgen de Gador, were declared a resounding success by Berja’s Councillor for Festivals and Traditions, Jose Carlos Lupion, and the Councillor for Education and Culture, Maria Luisa Cruz.

The events with the hightest participation were the sporting events, with a clay tennis championship, a fun run and a football tournament. The town’s children enjoyed a fun science show called ‘The Shipwreck’ and a show put on by the KUKU theatre group. For chidren and adults there was cinema, a Spanish dance show by Lola Quesada and an exhibition of falconry which brought falcons, eagles and an eagle owl to the town’s Plaza Porticada.

An exhibition of photographs, ‘Andalucia Imaginada’, can still be seen at Avenida Jose Barrionuevo Peña 54, showing images of Andalucia taken between 1910 and 1930.
