Malaga Fair: more visitors than ever

• 28 Aug 2008 •

Malaga Fairground: Fun for all.MALAGA FAIR finished with a bang as locals were awarded a colourful firework display, like every year. According to information from the Council, this year’s fair registered six million visitors but it invoiced less money (115 million euros). The current economic crisis has been blamed for the decrease in the amount of money collected.

Despite this, the Mayor of Malaga, defined the Fair as ‘the best in the world’. He stated that “it has been an exceptional Fair, bearing in mind that we are facing an economic crisis”. A higher volume of users was registered by the Public Transport Service (EMT), that was used by a 2.3 per cent more people than last year. Regarding the percentage of waste collected at the fairground, as there has been a 4.7 per cent decrease due to the lower consumption or maybe due to better waste disposal facilities.

However the Fair also offered many other activities and leisure programmes which did not cost a penny for the visitors.

Regarding tourist affluence, 55.5 per cent of the people who asked for information at the Tourism Information Spots were Spanish, most of them from Madrid. They were followed by the rest of Andalucian provinces and Cataluña. Among the foreigners who visited the city, the French were the most present at the fair, followed by the British and Italians.
