INVESTIGATORS helping a German man track down a nuisance caller discovered his tormentor for two years was a faulty card payment system in a hairdresser’s shop which dialled the man whenever it accepted a card.

Prison break-in
A court in Malawi gave a 13-year jail term to a criminal who broke back into the prison where he had already served a six-year jail term for burglary, to steal guns and other equipment.

Wriggling thief
A thief broke into the headquarters of Austria’s ruling political party by wriggling through a 35x35cm post flap in the front door. He stole laptops, mobile phones, notebooks and cash before crawling out.

Green woman
Sweden, a pioneer in gender equality, plans to introduce a green woman at traffic lights across the country. Municipalities will be allowed to choose whether they want the sign with the woman or the man, or both.

Tea shortage
Never mind the radiation, according to recently declassified documents from the 50s, British contingency planners worried there would be a shortage of tea in the aftermath of a nuclear attack.
