RESIDENTS of Camposol Urbanisation in Mazarron are taking legal action over structural issues affecting many properties. Homes have for years suffered from severe subsidence, crumbling paths and roads, flooding and open sewers.
The problems have also previously been featured on ITV's Homes From Hell. A meeting was held for affected owners as appointed lawyers Poveda Hayes explained that the window of opportunity for owners to make a claim is closing fast as all complaints must be lodged within 10 years of the build completion.
Lawyer, Martin Hayes, said the meeting was the chance for residents to fight for compensation. He is already representing around 40 home owners in the first action that is currently going through the courts. “When the first action result comes through, it will not open the doors for everyone to automatically make claims, as each case will be treated individually. So people must take action. The more people in the group the better as it packs a bigger punch.”
The Guardia Civil arrested two people on suspicion of theft of fishing nets in Guardamar del Segura. More than 1,200 metres of professional fishing nets and around 400 hooks were recovered in a joint operaton with police in Santa Pola.
After investgations and interviews with various fishermen's associations in the area, a boat using similar equipment to that which was stolen was seen operating in Santa Pola. Two Spaniards were arrested.
BENIDORM’S neglected Parque de Elche is being spruced up. Growing criticism of its increasingly run-down appearance has spurred the council into action.
Flowerbeds have been dug along its length and planted with hardy perennials including lavender, germander and weeping fig. They have been separated from the road by a fence which serves the additional purpose of making the children’s recreation area a safer place to play.
The park is the responsibility of the regional government but as it has failed to take action, Benidorm town has carried out the work itself. “The Generalitat continually forgets about Benidorm,” complained Tourism councillor Gema Amor.
