Major train crash in New Jersey kills three and closes down railway line

ON the morning of September 29, a commuter train crashed into a railway station at Hoboken, killing at least three people and injuring more than 100 which also resulted in the closure of the line which brings workers from New Jersey into Manhattan.

It is reported that the train entered the station at speed, left the tracks and shot through the ticket barriers, demolishing some of the supports for the roof in the general station area and bringing part of the ceiling down.

At least 20 ambulances arrived to ferry casualties to local hospitals and whilst there is no suggestion at this stage that it is anything more than a terrible accident, an investigation will start shortly to try to find the reasons for the crash.
