Iran and US under pressure to agree nuclear deal

Nuclear talks between the US and Iran are continuing with the two countries coming under pressure to agree a deal by Friday. The deadline of 30 June over-ran but if this latest one is missed it could mean the US Congress will stall it further, resulting in the lifting of US Sanctions also being delayed.
There are key differences between the P5 plus 1 group – the five countries of US, Russia, UK, France and Germany plus the UN - and Iran. Disagreement is centred on sanctions, international inspections of Iran´s non-nuclear sites and verification of how Iran complies.
Difficulties remain over Iran´s request to end a UN Security Council arms embargo, which has already been rejected by the US. Fears that Iran may be developing a nuclear bomb have been denied by Iran who say that the nuclear programme is only for peaceful purposes. However, Western powers want to ensure that the Middle-eastern country cannot do so and do not have the ability to build one at least for the next year.
