Pink Floyd to release new album

THE legendary band Pink Floyd has released information over a new album to be released later in the year.

It has been over two decades since the band released their last album, The Division Bell in 1993.

The new album, entitled The Endless River, is a compilation of previously unreleased songs which were started in the 90s at around the same time as The Division Bell was being recorded and features work by David Gilmour and Nick Mason, along with keyboardist Rick Wright before he died of cancer in 2008.

Speaking of their collaboration on the album, Mason said: “The Endless River is a tribute to Rick. I think this record is a good way of recognising a lot of what he does and how his playing was at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound.

“Listening back to the sessions, it really brought home to me what a special player he was.”

The album consists of 18 tracks over four sides, and is believed to only feature vocals on one track, Louder than Words.

Gilmour, as reported by Sky News, said:  “We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album.

“Over the last year we’ve added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album.

“With Rick gone, and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire.”

A further curiosity is that this will be the first Pink Floyd album since their debut Piper at the Gates of Dawn with artwork designed by anyone other than Storm Thorgerson, who died in 2013.

Eighteen-year-old Egyptian digital artist, Ahmed Emad Eldin, produced the cover, which depicts a man standing in a rowing boat and using an oar to punt his way through an ocean of clouds into the horizon.

The album is due to be released later this year on November 10.
