I am playing a waiting game now

I am playing a waiting game now

It is so good to know, now that I have finally come out the other side of my chemotherapy, that I won’t be going back next Wednesday! I am just starting to feel better.
No more white tongue, achy muscles or insatiable thirst. I am left however with very dry skin and puffy eyes.
I collected my blood analysis from my doctor and noticed the ‘neomarcadores’ or tumour markers were higher than they should be. As all this is new to me I shall await the verdict of my oncologist before reading too much into it.
Tumour markers are used to help diagnose cancer, predict a patient’s response to certain cancer therapies, check a patient’s response to treatment, or determine whether cancer has returned.
I imagine that as I still have radiotherapy to go the jury is out. One concerning thing was the type of CAT scan that my oncologist sent me for, just a simple scan of my torso and without any contrast. A close friend of mine who is an oncologist in the private sector was pretty outraged by this and is trying to intervene to change the scan to one with contrast to better highlight any areas of concern and of my abdomen as well as the torso. We shall see what happens.
May 20 is the day I sit down with my oncologist and look at the scan results in conjunction with the blood tests. I suppose we should have a clearer picture of how I have responded to chemo and what type of oral hormone treatment they will decide to give me.
As I have said in my previous blog I am playing a waiting game at the moment. I still do not have a date to start my radiotherapy. So on that note I won’t write any more because I sincerely don’t have much else to report.
The end of chemo has strangely been a bit of an anti-climax for me so I prefer to catch up with you next week when I hopefully feel a little more cheerful!
