NERJA - THE sea beds in the Nerja area, have seriously deteriorated over the past years and where there used to be a wide variety of marine flora and fauna, there is now only an area of some seven square metres. The main caused for this is fishing boats coming too close to the shore and because the area is not cared for. Damage was especially bad after floods in September 2007 which dragged all kinds of refuse into the sea damaging the natural area. However, nothing is being done by the Junta de Andalucia to clean the area.

The Maro marine ‘meadows’ (CHECK) are one of the most varied ecosystems in Malaga, and there are only similar areas in La Caleta de Velez and Marbella.
A platform had been created to defend the areas and they have even written to the Pope and Queen Sofia to request help.
