Fans of Strictly Come Dancing were compensated for missing their favourite TV programme on Saturday night when they attended the Albox Cricket Club annual dinner and dance, held at La Parrilla Hotel in Albox. Big band dance music and light entertainment were provided by former ballroom champion Steve Ashley and international cabaret artist Pauline Burchill, who hold weekly dancing classes every Monday evening at Rumores Bar in Albox.

Big band dance music and light entertainment were provided by former ballroom champion Steve Ashley and international cabaret artist Pauline Burchill, who hold weekly dancing classes every Monday evening at Rumores Bar in Albox.

Ex-professional cricketer and club President John Dye welcomed the guests in a talk which outlined the progress of the club and gave details of future developments which included the construction of a sports ground dedicated to cricket in the Albox area. He presented the Young Cricketer of the Year award to 18-year-old Matthew Smith, who has been selected to take part in training for the Spanish national squad.

In his response on behalf of the guests, ex-Northern Ireland international professional footballer Alex Elder recalled some interesting and amusing anecdotes from his career, including winning a league championship medal with Burnley, a European Cup campaign, and his appearance in an F A Cup Final at Wembley. He reminisced nostalgically about his former roommate George Best, in a witty and entertaining address.
