Jacko won’t be buried in Neverland

Michael Jackson memorial

Technicalities prevent the burial on private property

THE funeral for deceased pop star Michael Jackson will be held on Tuesday July 7 at 10am at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, according to the US media. The stadium, which is home to the LA Lakers and belongs to company AEG Live will be used as well as the adjacent Nokia Theatre, to hold a public funeral. Huge screens will be installed so fans who are unable to access the enclosure will be able to watch from outside.

It was here that the artist spent his last night alive, rehearsing for his upcoming ‘This is it’ tour which was due to start on July 13 at the O2 stadium in London.

The Jackson family wanted Michael to be buried at his Neverland ranch in Santa Barbara, but this plan was abandoned as there were legal difficulties to be overcome which did not permit remains being buried on a private property. If this had gone ahead, Neverland may have become a place of pilgrimage for thousands of people, similar to Elvis Presley’s Graceland mansion.
