Suspect used ‘doraimonjose’ to contact boys in chat-rooms
THE Guardia Civil have remanded a 35-year-old man in custody, charged with paedophilia via internet chat rooms following an operation code-named, ‘Dora’.
During the police investigation, more than 200 email addresses were discovered which were thought to belong to his potential victims. All belong to under-age boys from Almeria City, Vicar, Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce.
The investigation was launched after a woman discovered inappropriate content on a computer, used by two under-age boys from her family, which indicated that a possible paedophile was making contact with them.
Using video and photographic computer files recovered from the computer, the police were able to establish that the alleged paedophile contacted the boys over the internet, making sexual comments and requesting sexual favours in exchange for money. The Guardia Civil’s cyber crime unit was able to identify the alleged paedophile who was using the chat-room nick-name, ‘doraimonjose’.
Further investigation revealed that, once he had gained the trust of the boys, he would send them private messages, gradually obtaining personal details such as their telephone number, address and school. He would then contact them directly with the objective of obtaining sexual favours.
To avoid detection, he used computers at internet cafes, storing his illicit files on the internet instead of on the computers themselves. Other methods of making contact with young boys included visiting skateboard parks and sports halls, dressed in clothing chosen to make him look more youthful.
The man lives at a rented room in a guest house in Almeria City and police say he made a living by begging at markets and shopping centres. During a search of his room, investigators seized documents and clothes that will prove to be key evidence in the forthcoming court case, as they are those he wore in some of the webcam conversations recorded.
