Difficult times: Unemployment rises throughout Spa

ALMERIA has the second highest rate of unemployment in Spain, at 21.74 per cent, according to a Spanish Labour Force Survey (EPA). This is higher than the Andalucian average (18.3 per cent) and exceeds the national average (11.33 per cent) by more than ten per cent.  The province’s recorded employment for the third quarter was 61.82 per cent  and the number of employed workers amount to 267,700. In Andalucia, unemployment increased by 86,600 during the third quarter, to a total of 704,600, or 18.33 per cent, two per cent higher than the 16.26 per cent of the second quarter.
The rate of unemployment in other Andalucian provinces is as follows: Granada 20.62 per cent, Huelva 19.43, Cadiz 18.85, Malaga 18.01, Jaen 17.95, Cordoba 17.71 and Sevilla 15.92. In the whole of Spain, unemployment increased by 217,200 people in the third quarter, so the total number of unemployed now stands at some 2.598,800 people and the rate of unemployment is 11.33 per cent, compared with the 10.44 of the second quarter.
