Ikea site chosen near Valencia

Flat-pack on your doorstep.

IKEA’S long-awaited new store in Valencia will open in the Heron City shopping centre in Paterna, near the city, reveal sources from the Swedish flat-pack giant. The new store is expected to create around 2,000 jobs and will be the first, but certainly not the last, Ikea to open in the Comunidad Valenciana. At present, fans of the cheap but chic Scandinavian flat-pack furniture brand have to travel all the way to their store in Murcia to stock up on home improvement supplies. But radical expansion plans could mean that eventually there will be one Ikea store per million inhabitants in the region.
A date for its opening has not been discussed yet, since the Generalitat and top bosses at Ikea will need to work closely together and analyse costs. However, they hope to speed up the process as much as possible, says Pedro Campelo, Ikea’s sub-director in Spain.
