Benidorm estate agent arrested over clients’ mugging

AN estate agent has been arrested for conspiracy following the theft of 73,000 euros from a couple who had recently sold a property through his office. Guardia Civil officers report that the couple, from Guipúzcoa, had sold their flat in Barracas (Castellón) through the estate agent in Benidorm. On completion, the agent handed over the sale proceeds in cash in a sealed envelope and insisted on accompanying them to their car for safety reasons. But halfway on their journey home, the couple had to stop at a service station when they found that their tyre had been punctured.
Whilst they were investigating the damage, they were attacked by two men in their mid-forties, who stole the cash.
Officers arrested the thieves the following day in Villar del Arzobispo (Valencia), thanks to   an accurate description given by a witness in the service station. Enquiries carried out by Guardia Civil officers in Altea revealed that the estate agent had ceased to trade two days before the robbery.  They arrested the agent in La Nucia on Friday on suspicion of having organised the robbery.
