Beehives: Stolen from Guadalhorce Valley and Marbe

A beekeeper from Monda has been arrested for allegedly stealing some 230 hives throughout the Guadalhorce Valley and in the Marbella area during the past few weeks.
The man was first caught during a routine spot check carried out by the Guardia Civil near Marbella, when he was discovered to be carrying 80 honeycombs which were found not to be his. He was arrested for robbery.
The Guardia Civil were informed some days later  that other stolen hives had been found on a property on the outskirts of Ronda. Police in the town began to investigate and found 66 honeycombs on a property between Venta de la Vega and Montejaque and a further 83 between Montejaque and Grazalema. They discovered that both sites belonged to the beekeeper from Monda who was charged again. National Police and Guardia Civil investigating the disappearance of the beehives claim that they are thought to be worth approximately 26,000 euros.
